Attendance

There is a strong relationship between regular attendance at school and children reaching their educational potential.

The Education Act 1996 states that all children should attend school regularly and punctually. The Act states, “If a child of compulsory school age who is registered at a school fails to attend regularly at the school, his/her parent is guilty of an offence”.

It is crucial that home and school work together to ensure that all pupils at Reydon Primay School overcome any potential barriers with attendance and ensure children have the very best start in their lives. We acknowledge that irregular attendance seriously disrupts learning for pupils and therefore ensure that we monitor and act upon attendance trends and issues.

At Reydon Primary School, we aim to work closely with children and their parents to ensure that they arrive punctually and attend regularly. Our Attendance Policy sets out how we work with families when problems with attendance and punctuality are identified.  It also shares procedures we have in place to ensure that our records are accurate.

Top tips for getting your children to school on time

Absence for Sickness

If your child is unwell or absent for any other reason, please contact the school before 9.00am by telephoning the School Office. You are welcome to leave a message on our answer phone either before or during office opening hours.

If a child is absent from school for more than three days, or has a recurrent medical problem, parents should send supporting documentation to the school office.

All children will receive a home visit from the school on the third day of any absence and every third day until they return to school.

Absence for Appointments

Where it is at all possible please make appointments for dentist, doctor, etc. outside school hours to avoid disruption and time missed at school.

Leave of Absence

Permission for any absence during term time will only be granted in exceptional circumstances and a form will need to be completed and submitted to the school.  Please contact the school office for an Absence Request Form.

Please be advised that Holidays during term time cannot be authorised. The request should be submitted 4 weeks prior to the absence.  An appointment should be made with the Headteacher prior to planning the leave of absence.
